Meet Koo Wiase the 'Oseikrom Boss
Born Gordon Kwabena Asante on June 2nd, 1986, Koo Wiase grew up on the zongo streets of Kumasi.
As a juvenile, to keep him away from the negativity of the streets,
his mother signed him up for music lessons which also lead to him
singing and drumming in church around the age of 10.
As a troubled kid, Koo Wiase says one of the things that always brought him peace, and still does till this day, is music.
Now based in the USA, Koo Wiase, the Anax Entertainment artiste has
been making music seriously for the past five yrs and recently opened
for Ofori Amponsah in Chicago last May. He also released the well
acclaimed Mixtape DTO Vol 1 this summer. During a recent interview with
DJ Simms of Kesbben FM, Koo Waise said that doing music for him was not
hard at all,” I don’t feel like I’m in competition with anyone, I just
do me. When you hear my music, you hear the message, I don’t just rhyme,
in some of my music I don’t even rhyme at all but at the end of the
song you can relate to it. I like to sing and rap about life experiences
and so my music is my platform for getting out those messages.”
Simms: I have a copy of your DTO Mixtape Vol 1 and I noticed that you say a lot about Oseikrom, why is that?KW: I got a lot of love for Oseikrom, I was born there, grew up there, got family and friends there and Oseikrom shows me love so I represent Oseikrom to the fullest.
Simms: I know you got a lot of tracks but is there one in particular that keeps you grounded?
KW: I have a song with and produced by Jay Q called 'Sika' and that’s a very inspirational song for me. I talk of the destruction that money can cause, tear up families, turn friends against each other and bring the fakers out of the woodworks. I listen to that song all the time and that keeps me going.
With tracks like 'Oseikrom', 'Killa Swagga', 'Certified Hustler',
'Obia 3kasa', 'Welcome To My World', 'Nya Abotre3', and more all on his
DTO Mixtape.
Versatility is the word that comes to mind when you listen to this
brother’s flow. Not only can he flow to any beat but with the exception
of making the beat, he can pretty much do anything when it comes to
music including writing all his lyrics, recording and arranging his
music.
“Shempele” produced by JQ is his first official single, and with an
official video directed by Uplink Video Production’s, Joeseph Quagraine,
with that he’s hoping to reach a bigger audience thus be able to spread
his message to more people.
